Group-based Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Services

Social Communication – Level A (Early Communication Skills)

This group-based program will provide participants with opportunities to learn skills needed to engage with peers and participate in group activities. We will use ABA strategies to teach early communication skills, social skills and play skills. These skills are contrived and taught within group activities.

Skills taught can include:

  • Early social responding and initiation e.g., returns greetings, approaches others
  • Early leisure activities and social play e.g., engages in parallel play, requests from peers
  • Group learning skills e.g., participate in structured group activities, transitions between group activities.

Social Communication – Level B (Intermediate Communication Skills)

This group-based program will provide participants with opportunities to learn skills needed to engage with peers and participate in group activities. We will use ABA strategies to teach intermediate communication skills, social skills and play skills. These skills are taught within group activities using simple instructions, modeling, practice and feedback. 

Skills taught can include:

  • Social play e.g., initiates greetings, joins others in play, gains peer attention, takes turns and shares
  • Complex language e.g., answers wh- questions, requests and comments using full sentences

Age Group 7 – 9 Years Old

We will use ABA strategies to teach advanced communication and social skills. These skills are taught within group activities using simple instructions, modeling, practice and feedback.

  • Social play and cooperation e.g., follows complex instructions, gives explanation how to do something
  • Early conversation skills e.g., joins a conversation, takes turns in a conversation
  • Age group: 13 – 15 years old

Out and About

Group Description: Participants learn relevant and functional skills related to community access and involvement.
Participants learn skills as how to read and understand common street signs, finding and using a public telephone,
managing money, managing time, efficient grocery shopping, using the TTC and safety in the community. Regular
outings in the community are a major component of this group.

Group topics of instruction include:

  • Time management related to travelling
  • Identifying street and TTC signs
  • Identifying and labelling money
  • Grocery shopping including making a shopping list, reading flyers, estimating cost, and making purchases
  • Using the TTC including planning a trip, purchasing fares, transferring from one stop to another and coping with crowds
  • Planning alternative routes on the TTC
  • What to do in an emergency while in the community
  • Age group: 14 – 17 years old

AIM – Accept Identify Move

AIM stands for Accept Identify Move and is an evidence-based curriculum that teaches social emotional skills and cognitive flexibility by blending together concepts of Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Applied Behaviour Analysis.

The goal of this programming is to provide tools to help accept and diffuse difficult thoughts and work identifying values to help learners make meaningful behavior changes towards those values.
